Young Arjun Wins the Engineers Cup

(Dubai, UAE) – Arjun Gupta added to his trophy collection with an impressive win in the Engineers Cup. A competition traditionally played from the black tees of the Majlis course, however this had no effect on the 11 year old as he made pars on 15 holes on his way to a score of 38 points. Also on 38 points but losing out on a count back was runner up Sudhir Vora. A further point adrift was Ashok Ahuja who finished in third place with a score of 37 points.

Edwards Hesson was the winner in the B division (Hcp 13-24) with 35 points. Akash Kumar was the runner up with 34 points. Fantastic scoring from all of the winners considering the length of the Majlis course from the black tees.

ECCO Challenge – Four Man Team (Best two scores count)

(Abu Dhabi, UAE) – Friday, September 18th held the always enjoyable Members ECCO Challenge at Yas Links. Some would say the cooler weather was evident though it is still certain that the humidity is treacherous. The format of the day was a  four man team stableford with the best two scores to count; so all competitors planned for a great team in the day’s tournament. After the challenge all gathered in Hickory’s for the prize presentation where Yas Links PGA Head Professional Chris Dodd in partnership with ECCO presented prizes to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place team winners.

3rdplacewinners

Disco Dominates Humid Opener

(Ras al-Khaimah, UAE) – David Biddlecombe (Disco) has finally been able to silence the critics about his inability to get across the line when the pressure is on as his 22 point tally in the weekly social stableford afforded him his very first Individual win. Disco started less than impressively after finding the water several times on his opening hole, the treacherous 18th, thus being unable to record a score, but what was to follow was truly remarkable.

tower-links-golf-club

Precise driving coupled with pin point approach shots enabled Biddlecombe to dominate his remaining holes, with his final 4 holes netting him a whopping 13 stableford points, which included 2 net eagles on holes 15 and 17. Close on the heels of Biddlecombe was the gritty left hander Robbie Cunningham who posted another impressive score of 21 stableford points to fall just shy of the leading mark and will be one to keep an eye on come the pointy end of the season.

Third place was awarded to former Tower Links Junior Hugh Williams, who now resides in the U.K. where he is furthering his studies. An exceptional natural talent, a trait which he has obviously inherited from his mother, Hugh posted an impressive 20 points and will hopefully take that form back to his College matches.

Pin winners were Hugh Williams on the 12th, with his father Paul taking the honors on the 16th, no doubt the car trip home was a memorable one. Spooning on the night was Graham Farrington who obviously struggled with the suffocating conditions as he was only able to record 7 points.
