Al Zorah Golf Club Launches National Junior Development Program in Ajman
April 4th, 2016
(Ajman, UAE) – The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) is excited to announce that the newest United Arab Emirates (UAE) golf club, Al Zorah Golf Club, (AZGC) has launched the National Junior Development Program (NJDP) in Ajman. In partnership with the EGF the Al Zorah Golf Club will look for new and young talent to develop the future of Emirati golf.
Martin Dewhurst, PGA Professional and leading the charge for the NJDP at Al Zorah had this to say about the newly adapted program, “Our goal is to try and attract as many Emiratis from Ajman, Sharjah and Um Al Quain as possible to experience golf at the beautiful AZGC. We are looking forward to starting the process of the NJDP. We look to develop the juniors making them the best players that they can be, whilst having players from our region representing the UAE internationally.”
Starting last weekend and running every Friday and Saturday at Al Zorah Golf Club, Martin had 29 players in attendance all of which were experiencing golf for the first time. “We would like to really develop our Junior Program in association with the EGF with our aim being to have over 80 children enrolled by 2017,” said Martin. “We will keep the lessons fun and informative making sure that all of our juniors have a solid set of fundamentals which a good golf swing derives from. We will also incorporate interactive drills and diverse exercises to help increase coordination, speed and power.”
“We harbor great hopes of producing some of the UAE’s best players and we see Ajman as a great place for us to attract young, enthusiastic children who have a willingness to learn and practice hard. We will be hosting an Open Golf Day in April with the EGF where we will attract Emiratis from all over the Northern States of the UAE. In addition, to this we will be promoting our junior program and our men’s and ladies programs in the local schools and various governmental departments in a bid to attract the whole family to AZGC to take up the game,” Martin added.
“This is a great opportunity for the EGF and the local community in the Northern Emirates”, said Khalid Murbarak Al Shamsi the Secretary General of the EGF. “With the population being very Emirati influenced in the Ajman area we are hoping that this program will introduce the game of golf to many upcoming stars,” Mr. Al Shamsi added.
With two months left in the 2015-2016 UAE golf season the EGF is encouraging all locals to get involved with this National Junior Development Program and golf.
