(Sharjah, UAE) – The Dufry Ladies Open Championship 2017 edition was graced by some of the region’s very best lady golfers, including eventual champion and raising star on the Ladies European Tour Gabriella Cowley.

Ladies Open winners

Gabriella is currently at Sharjah Golf and Shooting club working on her game with resident PGA Professional Chris Dennis. The hard work she has put in thus far over the winter training camp is defiantly starting to show as she posted a convincing one under par in the most testing of conditions the UAE has to offer. Despite the weather conditions which kept most people off the golf course Gabriella’s front nine was perfectly under control with a steady one under par bogey-fee nine holes. As the morning went on and the conditions grew more testing a few bogies slipped into the round, however, Gabriella bounced back well with several birdies, including one on the 18th hole for the gathering spectators to enjoy. After the round, Gabriella spoke about how the work she is doing in the winter training camp at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club was improving and influencing her performance on and off the golf course.

The Championships second place on the day when to Alison Muirhead from Jumeirah Golf Estates, Alison fought incredibly hard on the day and posted a 75 three over par. After dropping two shots on the front nine Alison was always up against the ropes trying to get back to level par. Her grit and determination was evident and a birdie on the 17th gave her hope that she might get into the clubhouse dropping only the two shots from the front nine, however, a concluding bogey on the ever testing and blustery eighteenth hole left her on three over par for the day. Alison narrowly beat ever improving Kate Bibby from the Els Club, Kate carded a 76 to finish in 3rd place for the event. Sahana Pravantavida from Jumeirah Golf Estates took fourth place with a score of 77, five over par.

Over in the net division, Sakura Kawakami (AAESGC) produced a great round of golf finishing with a level par net 72 to claim the Division A title. The Runner-Up spot in Division A went to Sara Engsig (EGF) who finished with a net 75. The Division B prizes went to Hannah Mannion (EGF), who carded the lowest net of the day with 69 net. The runner-up was Satnam Kaur (EGF) with a score of 71 net.

Iain Forresst, Deputy Chief Operating Officer – Middle East & India of Dufry was on hand at the Prize Presentation in their 8th Year on board as sponsors and awarded each player with their prizes.
